Do you recall how vivid your imagination was as a child? Do you remember how easy it was to imagine yourself being a superhero, princess, or any character you wanted? How did you feel when you were embodying your favorite cartoon character? What were your thoughts as a child when you would play pretend? I used to imagine myself running extremely fast, jumping really high, or flying effortlessly across the sky. I remember feeling unstoppable and strong! Our ability to use our imagination came easy as a child, but the older we got, the more difficult it seems to imagine a life greater than our current selves. Think about why that is?

As adults, we get caught up on our everyday lives – waking up, getting ready for work, getting stuck in traffic, and just going about our day, almost mirroring the day prior. Then, we question ourselves, asking things like, “Why am I here? Why can’t I be more successful, havemore money, or live my dream life?” Well, my friends, it all starts from the power of our imagination. What we think and how we feel about ourselves and our abilities matches the life we live. In other words, what you see in your outer world is the representation of how you feel in your ‘inner’ world.

The beauty about life is you’re never truly stuck! It’s time, as adults, to remember the days when we were kids. So recall your power of imagination, and put it to use! After all, it always starts within – The choice is yours. When you use your power to imagine a life you truly want, you naturally start to encompass those emotions you want to feel. When your thoughts and emotions are aligned, you naturally feel motivated into taking action! It all starts with your ability to imagine.

There are several techniques you can use to help exercise your imagination. It’s time for you to take time to intentionally and mentally create a life greater than your current reality. One simple technique you can do is to write down all the thoughts and emotions you want to feel in your life. If you were to imagine these thoughts and emotions you want to encompass, what would they be? You could choose joy, happiness, wealth, abundance, gratitude, determined-passion, aliveness, peace of mind, clarity, etc. Then, on another piece of paper, write down several scenarios which can demonstrate these thoughts and emotions.

In other words, imagine what kind of life you could have that could bring about these ideal thoughts and emotions. An example could be, having a successful career that you dreamed of, one which pays well, maybe traveling more, having more money and being debt-free, perhaps having more time to indulge in your favorite hobby or spending more quality time with love ones. Lastly, and most important, close your eyes and imagine yourself as though you’ve already accomplished all of what you wrote down. Take your time to clearly picture in your mind’s eye specifically as you can, what it looks and feels like. Can you vividly picture the colors? What do you hear? Is there a taste or a smell? This is the time to be in the moment! Let your imagination be totally absorbed into your mind and body. When you feel a sense of completion, write down what you imagined, capturing all of the details.  Make sure to include your thoughts and emotions. It may take a few practices, as for some, this may feel like a stretch. But, You will know you’re doing it right when you feel a sense of joy, peace, or calm. You might even catch yourself grinning or letting out a laugh. The best part about the picture in your mind is that it is YOUR movie.  You can edit or expand it, however and whenever you want!

This simple method, along with the daily practice of visualization and meditation, can help you rewire your brain to take action in achieving your goals. Some of you may struggle with this exercise at first or this simply might not resonate with you, but don’t give up. This is the time to set aside your adult-barriers and allow your inner child to play! This isn’t the time to judge yourself or be self-critical. This is personal process meant to help you create the life you want so get focused and be creative!

As kids, we didn’t have to look like Superman, or have actual super powers to FEEL like a superhero. We simply used our imaginations. We felt good and had fun. We were care-free with no blocks. As adults, it’s easy for us to get caught-up in our everyday, zombie-like routine, and then wonder how we got there. Some of us lost our ability imagine anything that isn’t in front of us. Dear souls, I ask you to take the time, to re-engage the creative part of your brain, and re-awaken your power of imagination. You still have the ability to think greater than your routine and habitual thoughts. You can learn to picture a life greater than your current state. Be purposeful, be vivid, and feel your desired emotions grow. You are worth the time so take the time to imagine! Enjoy your journey, my friends.
