Many of us have asked this question at least once in our lives. Often, this question can lead to follow-up questions such as, “What is my purpose? Why am I here? Why does any of this matter?!” The answer to who you are lies in who is asking. First, let’s consider the objective answer of who we are as humans. In this definition, we are the narrator of an unfinished story that we continue to create for ourselves. It can be a story intertwined with other people’s stories, forming one giant play called Life. We are an identity, fabricated by inner and outer influences. We are individuals, quilted and woven by our beliefs. But, is this all who we truly want to be? A lot of what we create is limited to what we have learned to believe about ourselves, based on what people say, our past experiences, along with our own perception.
The TRUTH about who you think you are, and what is true for you goes beyond your thinking. Who YOU are is an infinite being observing the question itself. You are the awareness untethered by a story you’ve created. You are the silence between the chapters of your book. Imagine your life as clouds passing in the sky. You are the space between the clouds. You are the pillar unmoved by life’s bullshit. You are a nameless, free-flowing force, unchanged by the story you tell yourself and what others tell you.
Some people believe we are angels in human forms who have chosen this life. Some believe we are simply spiritual beings having a human experience. Some may also believe we are robots or aliens and are all here because we were programmed to be! The TRUTH is… you are an undeniable, Life Force. You are free-flowing energy. You are Source power. You are everything, anything, yet nothing at the same time. You are limitless. You are fluid. You have a natural, infinite vibrating-frequency of love. If you don’t feel or see it, it’s only because you’ve become too indulged in the story that you have created for yourself or what you’ve allowed society to create for you. You are bigger than the life you created. You are a connection to a powerful Source that feeds you everything you need. You are greater than what your mind can possibly conceive. You are the awareness that asks, “Who am I?” So, who you are is essentially the Creator of whatever life you want to lead. Here’s an exercise. Fill in all the blanks below:
I am (place your name here)
I am (name your current occupation)
I am (name your personality type)
I am someone who enjoys (name your hobbies)
I am (name how you want to feel)
I am (name how you’ve been feeling)
Now, remove everything after the words, “I am.” What remains… is the basis of who you truly are… the I AM. You are the Creator of whatever you’ve been experiencing, and all that you want to experience in life. No matter what you are currently facing, you are the center being observing it all. You are the observer, the silent awareness behind awareness itself. Your mind asks the question of who you are, but you are not your mind. You’re the observer of such questions who already knows the answer. The truth when unveiled is that you already know. You just need to remember where you came from. Your human existence might have started when you were born, but your source existed long before your human journey.
Have I lost you yet? Well, keep reading…
Imagine you are watching a movie on TV. You observe the movie, feeling whatever emotions arise. When the move is over, you simply turn off the television. Essentially, you are not the movie, but the one observing it. During the movie, you take notice of every emotion that you feel during certain scenes, feeling the love, anger, passion, happiness, or sadness of the characters, but you also know you are not the characters in the movie. You are simply the observer. If your life were a movie, you would probably think of yourself as the leading character; however, the character is a creation… you, my Dear Soul, is the director. You observe, make rewrites, and can change the movie entirely. People often get lost in the identity they create for themselves and may feel stuck in that character. You need only remember that you are in control of who you are and who you want to be.
In this life, your purpose is defined by the lessons you face in this world. You are meant to learn, grow, and manifest whatever you desire. The challenge is that so many of us limit ourselves to our experience, which isn’t always positive. It’s important to remember that your true nature is beyond this world. You are powerful beyond measure, dear soul. Your existence is infinite. You are bigger than what you see, think, and feel. There is a powerful source within you, always guiding you closer to the TRUTH. You only have to listen. This may seem like a lot to take in, but there are many of you who are beginning to feel this truth deep within. In knowing this TRUTH, it is important to create your life as intently and purposefully as you can. It starts with asking the question – Who Am I? Happy creating, my friends.
